ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Dear Sigma Nu Alumni, Greetings to all of you from the Theta Beta Chapter Alumni Association! Hope all of you have had a good year. This year marks the 40 Year Anniversary of the founding of Sigma Nu at the University of South Dakota . The house is at a critical stage in its rebuilding process and we need your help now more than ever. The men in the house now are small in numbers but very enthusiastic and hardworking in their efforts to get the house and its membership back on track. Rich Abild and I attended a house meeting recently and were impressed by the young Most are freshman and sophomores) men there and their optimism. These guys can and will be the leaders we need to recruit new members in Rush next year. We will need your support to help them achieve their goal to make Sigma Nu number one on campus again. I want to ask you all for a donation this year to get the old house looking good with some necessary repairs to help them to get new members. The Old Barn is not getting any younger! We are looking at some other options for a future house but need to get our membership levels up before seriously looking at other house options. Please send your donations as soon as possible to get the house ready for the 40-year celebration.

The 16th Annual Sigma Nu Alumni Golf Tourney was held August 16th 2007 at Spring Creek Country Club in Sioux Falls . The 2 Man team of Kent Delaney and D.C. Brown took the green jackets (again!!) home. We are moving the tourney into September this year as part of the 40-year weekend celebration. The tourney will be held at Spring Creek Country Club again this year on September 19th starting at noon. 2-Man best ball so indicate if you have a partner you want. If you don’t have a partner we pair you up with someone from your era in the house. Golf starts at Noon with burgers and brats on the deck with prizes and of course the Crow Bar later. Cost is 75 dollars per player, which includes golf, cart, food and prizes. To RSVP for the event call me at 605-366-3583.

Hope to see lots of golfers and hackers show up for the fun! Thanks to all Alumni who have given to the house in our efforts to save Sigma Nu at USD. Without your donations there would be no Theta Beta to go back to. Thanks for sending in your donation now and I look forward to seeing many of you this fall for the 40TH

Fraternally, Dave West Sigma Nu Alumni Chairman Theta Beta 234

8.15.2007

Greetings from the Alumni Association!! 2006-07 has been an exciting and challenging time for Theta Beta. With a lot of hard work and generous donations from Alumni the Sigma Nu House is once again open at USD! I personally want to thank all who have given their time and money to make this happen. Also it would not have happened if we didn’t have a good core of young men in the house now who went to a lot of hard work to get Sigma Nu back on its feet. The “ Old Barn” is definitely showing its age but infinitely better since we were able to put some of your donations to work in making necessary repairs to make it livable again.

We are asking for donations again to improve the existing structure and to start building up funds for a future house. Please consider giving on a 5 year commitment of 100-1000 a year so we can budget repairs and save for the future. We know the old house is not viable option for the long term but need it as a bridge to the future at USD. Our goal is to raise enough money to plan buying or building a new house in a few years. Of course a lot of this will depend on how the house does in numbers in the next few rush classes. I and many other Alumni made our way to Vermillion during Rush Week to talk to potential new members. As far as I know no other house had Alumni there for Rush. I think it worked well for these freshman to see how much our Fraternity means to us even 20 years after college. We need to make a concerted effort to get a lot of Alumni to Vermillion again for Rush Week!

The 17th Annual Sigma Nu Golf Tourney will be held Friday, August 17th at Spring Creek Country Club in Sioux Falls at 11:30am. Last year 28 Alumni battled the rain with the team of Kent Delaney(OB153) and D.C. Brown(OB212) claiming the green jackets with an incredible 2-Man Best Ball score of 59!! No cheating, I witnessed it!!! Check your schedule and airline schedules and try to make it this year. We need to know if you are coming for food and tee time purposes so call me (605-366-3583) or Kevin Kaufman(OB263) (605-361-5649) if you plan to attend ($75 a player includes golf, cart, food and prizes). We raised $1500 for the house at the tourney last year!!

In the next year try to make it to Dakota Days on October 13. Also we are in the planning stages for the 40 year Anniversary of Theta Beta in Fall 2008!! Lets all hope and pray for a great year for all of our Sigma Nu brothers all over the world and especially for those serving our country in harms way. Please send what you can to help make Sigma Nu the best House on campus at USD.

Fraternally,
Dave West OB234

PAST REPORTS

Greetings from the Sigma Nu Alumni Association!! Hope all is well with you and your families all over the USA! As you can see the Sigma Nu House at USD is in dire need of all concerned Alumni. We must all consider what Sigma Nu means to us and try to get the chapter back on it’s feet and on the path forward to a better future. We need your thoughts, ideas, time and of course financial help to bring this about. I challenge all of you to make a 5-year commitment of 100-1000 dollars a year to get the current house in livable condition and to build up a fund for a future house purchase. I do feel that most of you could at least afford $100 a year. The Sigma Nu House has never needed you more, than now and we appreciate any money and/or time you can give!!! The 15th Annual Sigma Nu Tourney will be held at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls this August 18th. 35 golfers came out last year with Mike DeBuck and yours truly winning the green jackets. Come next year and join in on the fun and brotherhood!! Thanks for your time and please consider helping us save Sigma Nu at USD.
If you are interested in playing this year please contact me at 605-366-3583 or Kevin Kaufman at 605-361-5649.

Fraternally Yours,
